Protesting MTV

Only July 29th, amidst the middle of a New York City heat wave, and weather reports guaranteeing it would be "miserably hot," I joined a group from Rock for Life to stand in Times Square and protest MTV.

This was a silent protest. Our signs read "MTV Stop Selling Sex to Children," "MTV Get Dressed" (a play on one of their shows called ‘Undressed’), "I am not an Object," and "MTV Promotes Abortion."

The statement we stood to make was that MTV has been marketing sex and pornography to youth long enough. As long as MTV continues to promote teen sex and birth control, they will continue to promote abortion. To be perfectly honest, we, as the youth of this nation, have seen enough of our generation killed by abortion.

The response was great. Many people walked by with their thumbs up, or simply say "I agree," while others would stop to talk about their beliefs. Those who disagreed would only mumble obscenities under their breath as they passed, we are sure, in no part, due to what MTV has been dishing out for the past 20 years.

This event was the first of what will hopefully many more protests, many more marches, many more rallies of youth united in defense of life. In defense of the values our media has spent billions upon billions of dollars to flush down a rather large toilet.

To all young people out there, keep fighting for the truth, God has the victory! To those in later generations, be encouraged! There is a wonderful movement of youth rising up for this cause.
